A Bizottság 2020 végén jelentette meg középtávú előrejelzését, amelyben az EU 27 tagállamára vonatkozóan mutatja be a várható termelési, fogyasztási és piaci folyamatokat. Az előrejelzések készítése nem könnyű műfaj, hiszen számtalan tényezőt és azok egymásra hatását kell figyelembe venni.
Az EU-ra vonatkoztatva ez manapság különösen nehéz a COVID–19-pandémia és a Brexit által okozott bizonytalanságok miatt.
